Po’boys

Posted by on February 27, 2010

I think it’s fair to say that it’s not easy to find Cajun options in the Fox Cities.

Sure there is Menasha Grill, but that’s really your only choice. It’s a really good choice, do not get me wrong. I love that place.

As it turns out, now we have another delicious choice. Recently, Po’boys Sandwich Co. in Appleton opened. I had the pleasure of heading there with a friend for lunch last week and it was well worth the trip to the mall zone during the busy lunch hour.  It’s located at 4353 W. Wisconsin Ave. (near Noodles and Q’doba).

Of course their menu is filled with the traditionals – po’boys made of crawfish, shrimp and oysters, jambalaya, gumbo muffuletta and Cajun fries. I opted for the red beans and rice served with a side of Andouilli sausage ($4). I also had the Cajun fries ($2), which I swapped some of for my friend’s hush puppies ($3).

I do have to admit that we had to wait a little longer than we would have liked to grab our lunch to go, but the wait was understandable. It was the lunch hour and it was only their second week open, they admitted they were still getting the hang of things. And rightfully so.

Instead of giving you a number while you wait, you get a little card that says the name of a New Orleans native. I had The Neville Brothers, which I thought was a really cute and an authentic characteristic of the otherwise pretty normal looking lunch place.

If you’re looking for something a little different, I suggest trying out Po’boys. I really enjoyed it and will definitely keep it on my list of delicious places.

Interesting. And they look to be an independent joint, no? Do you know if they’re originally from N’Orleans?

Will have to keep them in mind the next time I’m in the Fox Cities area.

I am not sure of where they came from, but now you have me thinking that I should ask. They had an independent feel.
