I haven’t been out for Italian in a long time. So when a friend recommended Cannova’s Pizzeria - a place I’d never been – I was in.
It’s a cute little place, right in downtown Neenah, with a nice selection of wine and a good menu filled with pizza, pastas, salads and more. There was even live music, which was nice and not as overwhelming (considering we were right next to the musicians) as I thought it would be upon sitting down.
We immediately ordered a glass of wine (Hello Friday!), which was served with the whole bread and olive oil and balsamic vinegar shtick, always a hit in my book. For our meal we decided on a pizza and a side salad. By the recommendation of my friend, I picked the house salad, which had a really good dressing and fresh breadcrumbs sprinkled over the top. The dressing was SO good, just as promised.
We selected The Venetian Pizza, which was olive oil, artichoke hearts, fresh tomatoes, garlic, ricotta, mozzarella and sweet basil. We got the 14-inch ($15.50), which was more than enough for two people with the salads. We even each brought home two slices for our guys.
We didn’t have dessert, but the choices sounded good. Among them were Italian traditionals like tiramisu.
I really enjoyed Cannova’s and will definitely put it on my list of places to go back to. The atmosphere was nice, yet hip, the food was good and it was very reasonably priced. Plus, it was large enough to seat a lot of different sizes of groups. We were seated immediately, which I always am in favor of.

Cannovas is one of our favorites. If I go pizza I always get the sicilian, pasta I go with shrimp alfredo or there weekend special. Atmosphere is great and so are the prices. Make sure to hit Bogarts while you are downtown. A great place for a after dinner drink!
Love Cannovas! If you get dessert next time, be sure to try the baked cookie. I know it sounds odd from an Italian restaurant, but it’s AMAZING!
