I would have loved to have lived during the olden days when ‘taking drives’ is what people did for fun. I love just heading out with out a specific destination in mind for a ‘drive.’
Yesterday we headed out on one of those drives. You know, music up, lost of conversation, even a few snacks. On our way out of town we stopped at the Willow Creek Cheese Factory, just outside of Redgranite. They make the cheese right there so the cheese curds are always fresh. We grabbed a bag of the curds for the road and grabbed some Munster jalapeno and some Romano, one of our favorites.
We then headed to Wautoma where we hit up a shop we’ve passed what seems like a million times but have never stopped at. Stone Ridge Meat and Country Market. It was a cute little market with the feel of just that, a market. Meat and some specialty items seemed pretty reasonably priced. However, we agreed it would be expensive to do all of your grocery shopping there.
We picked up two very reasonably priced and sized pork tenderloins, some chili flavored sausages, which we plan to use in a pot of chilli and some hot Italian sausage for some sort of a pasta dish this week. We only spent about $36 at Stone Ridge and I feel like we got some good finds. Plus, the atmosphere was a little nicer than the regular old grocery store (especially during a time of year when I’m craving a farmers’ market in a bad way).
Today we headed to the Penzey’s spices store with Jeff’s parents who came to town to take us to lunch for his birthday lunch. We got this – Chili 9000 for that pot of chili.
